On Friday 16th October, The Big Play held its first successful Little Play Day. The event was themed around a teddy bear’s picnic with sandwiches, making bear masks and a bear hunt style obstacle course for children. Sixty children from over 30 families took part and managed complete the challenge with the assistance of their parents and their trusty teddy bear! More Big and Little Plays will be occurring in February of next year during our Big Play Week- watch this space for more details to come!
Over 300 people attended ‘The BIG Play’ launch on Friday 17th April at the Drumchapel Community Centre. ‘The BIG Play’ is an initiative developed by 3D Drumchapel and made possible with funding from Inspiring Scotland’s Go2Play Fund and the BIG Lottery Communities and Families Fund. The ‘BIG Play’ hopes to encourage families in Drumchapel to play with their children within the home and Community.
The launch day had plenty of fun activities for families including face painting, a bouncy castle and a mini zoo. Many local services also had stalls to let families know of what is going on in the local community. This event was opened by Bill Kidd MSP and Cllr Malcolm Balfour with a little help from Mickey and Minnie.
Sharon Colvin, Project Manager at 3D Drumchapel, said,“We are delighted to be able to launch this exciting new initiative in Drumchapel. We are hoping the BIG Play will create a buzz in Drumchapel that will see families taking up the BIG Play challenge and hosting their own play sessions. Families will be encouraged to spend time together having fun and enjoying each other’s company. The aim is that playing together becomes part of everyday life.”
More Big Play Days will be held throughout the year- watch this space for details of the next Big Play Day coming summer 2015!
